The Ghost Towns of Iowa

There are over 3000 known ghost towns in Iowa...
Most of these towns were begun with dreams of their founders for greatness. All eventually failed.
There stories however are part of the rich history of Iowa’s early years. One can only imagine the
difficulties the early settlers went through taming the wild prairie of Iowa. The stories of these now
gone towns carry some of Iowa’s richest history. Stories of coal mines, and hayfields. Stories of Iowa’s part in the great war between the North and South including the underground railroad. There were towns with great schools and academies that sprang up on the prairie and drew students form the east to their doors. Towns with religious beginnings. Towns with no official beginning at all.
It is the goal of Historic Photo Archives™ to document as many of these towns as possible in book form and on video. The rich history of these towns deserves to be retold once again long after they
vanished from the Iowa landscape.
Won’t you join me in this project to preserve the memory of these lost towns? There are many ways you can help.
